Dealing with Stress and Depression
With Thanksgiving right behind us and with the holidays approaching, be aware that some of your employees and colleagues may suffer from depression. The holidays bring about stress and are not happy times for everyone. They can bring about stress, sadness, and depression. This lesson is one that you can use during the holiday season.
Our free Luma Learning Lessons include objectives, estimated time, materials and instructional procedures for classroom and online/blended teaching. We will provide strategies on how to use our new LumaLive technology to collaborate virtually in real-time. We include these pillars from our learning research to illustrate where they are infused in our lessons.

Materials
|
1. | Have the Faces Worksheet on the table when participants come into the classroom and have them fill it out. |
2. | Ask the participants how they felt filling it out. Ask for examples of when someone shared something that made them feel good. Ask for examples of when someone shared something that made them feel not so good. |
3. | Before you share the Tips to Prevent Holiday Stress and Depression Worksheet ask the class if anyone has any tips or strategies they have for dealing with stress and depression during the holidays. Write these strategies on the board. |
4. | Review each tip that was provided by Mayo Clinic and have the participants fill out the worksheet on how they might utilize the strategy in their own life. |
5. | Optional if appropriate for your organization culture: As participants leave, give them the option to give you a high five or hug. This is an activity that is done in elementary classrooms but it has shown to be effective for adults as well. Everyone needs to know there is at least 1 person that cares for them. |
1. | Post Faces Worksheet in a discussion board and have participants reflect on it. It could be made a form in the Luma eNugget® Platform for filling in digitally. |
2. | In the discussion board post these questions:
• How did you feel filing out the sheet?
• Share an example of something that makes you feel good. • Share an example of something that makes you feel not so good. |
3. | Share Luma’s Dealing With Stress and Depression eNugget® and the Tips to Prevent Holiday Stress and Depression Worksheet. This is another worksheet that could be made digital to complete online. |
4. | Optional if appropriate for your organization culture: Post your phone number or do a LumaLive® session with your participants. Give them the opportunity to call someone to connect to show that you care. |
