Forklift Safety
Our free Luma Learning Lessons include objectives, estimated time, materials and instructional procedures for classroom and online/blended teaching. We will provide strategies on how to use our new LumaLive technology to collaborate virtually in real-time. We include these pillars from our learning research to illustrate where they are infused in our lessons.

Materials
|
1. | Start the session by showing a few seconds of video of forklift accidents. You may have a company video you can share or you can search the web and find many forklift accidents. For example, you could pick a few of the top10 forklift accidents on YouTube. |
2. | Drivers may find this very funny. Explain the seriousness of these incidents. You can share these slides or share statistics at your own company. |
3. | Put participants in groups and have them come up with their top 8 safety tips for operating a forklift. Stress that you want to help your company not become one of the accidents. |
4. | Go around the room and discuss the safety tips the groups came up with. Point out any clarifying safety tips that were not brought up that are important to your company. Option: Have them review any online content you have created outside of class like Luma’s eNugget® on Forklift Safety. |
5. | Challenge the participants to come up with a sign/poster that will be posted in a hallway or warehouse at your company. This can be done in groups or individually. Give them time to work. Feel free to pass out markers, magazines, and/or the Poster Template. Bring whatever materials you want them to use to create their posters. The template may help some who need extra help or do not feel very creative. |
6. | Optional: Have participated vote on their favorite signs. They have to add a comment why it is their favorite. You can have voting cans in your office or you can use an LMS polling system to collect votes at buildings across the company. One idea is to hold a luncheon a few weeks later where the highest voting gets recognized. These signs can become permanent/laminated signs that can be a constant reminder. |
7. | Come back together in a few weeks for a celebration. If you have multiple sites, this can be done at each location and the voting results announced via LumaLive or a similar synchronous tool as well. |
