Work/Life Balance Assessment
Our free Luma Learning Lessons include objectives, estimated time, materials and instructional procedures for classroom and online/blended teaching. We will provide strategies on how to use our new LumaLive technology to collaborate virtually in real-time. We include these pillars from our learning research to illustrate where they are infused in our lessons.

Materials
|
1. | Write or project on the board/wall this question: What is work/life balance? |
2. | Optional: Arrange the room in pods, pairs or table groups. |
3. | The purpose of this introduction activity is to see what groups already know and get a sense on how they currently feel about their work/life balance. |
4. | Tell the class: “I want you to come up with as many words, definitions, thoughts about this question. I am going to give you 5 minutes to brainstorm.” Set your timer and stop at the end of 5 minutes. |
5. | Go around the groups and have them reveal their list of words/thoughts. Write or project on the board/wall. If there is a duplicate, have the groups cross that work/thought off of their list. |
6. | Option: The group(s) that have the most unique words left on their list get a prize or award everyone for participating. You can use candy, gum, hats, shirts, or even stickers. People like to be recognized! |
7. | Ask: “Show with a raise of hands how many participants feel that they have a quality work/life balance.” |
8. | Invite participation, asking why they do or do not have a quality work/life balance. |
9. | Pass out page 3 to 6 of the Questionnaire for Self-Assessing Your Work-Life Balance. Have participants take the quality of work/life assessment. |
10. | Have them add up their points and divide by the # of questions they scored 1 or higher. So, if they scored 43 questions 1 or higher they divide by 43. |
11. | At the completion of the assessment, discuss the results. It might be easier to copy the table on page 1 and write or project it on the board/wall. Discuss results with the class. |
12. | Share strategies of balancing work commitments and personal commitments. |
13. | For anyone that did not fall in the good category, have them work with a partner to set at least 2 goals next month they will work on to work towards creating work/life balance. |
14. | Follow up next month with these participants to see how things are going. This shows you care and want them to live a healthy lifestyle. |
15. | If you are a Luma client, you can provide the eNugget® on Work/Life balance as a way to review the important points and to give them some ideas on possible goals |
