Our free Luma Learning Lessons include objectives, estimated time, materials and instructional procedures for classroom and online/blended teaching. 	Objectives Define community. Discuss why it is important to develop a strong sense of community. Create strategies for building community in your organization.
	Estimated Time 60 minutes
	Materials Building Community Worksheet Post-It Notes (2 colors) Pen or pencil Computer or Smartphone eNugget® Building Community in your Organization or a similar online content.

Instructional Procedures for F2F

1.	Write the word: COMMUNITY on the white board or project it on the wall with a computer.
2.	Pass out Post-It notes in one color. Have everyone write their definition of community. Have them stick their notes to the wall when they are done.
3.	Discuss the different definitions and group ones that are similar.
4.	Determine what is similar and different about the definitions. Come up with a working definition as a class.
5.	With the other color Post-it note, have each individual write down their best example of community at your organization. Have them stick them to the wall.
6.	Determine what qualities make these examples good examples.
7.	Pass out the Building Community Worksheet. Have individuals work on it individually and then have them meet with a peer to discuss.
8.	Create a document together [on Google docs] projected on the wall where you compile ways as a team you can improve community at your organization.
9.	Give yourself a goal or timeline to have everyone work on at least 1 strategy. Optional: You could have another session and recognize anyone that accomplished or worked on their strategy.

Instructional Procedures for Online

1.	Provide the Luma Building Community in your Organization or a similar online content for online experience. This gives them an introduction before they meet.
2.	Email out the Building Community Worksheet before the live meeting. Have individuals work on it individually and then have them meet with a peer to discuss.
3.	Then, students come to class to discuss their biggest takeaway OR they meet in LumaLive to discuss. [repeat steps 2–9 for classroom]
4.	Modifications: If you are using LumaLive for a synchronous or real-time session, you can use Shared Notes to write down all the definitions of community. Put definitions in purple. Discuss definitions as a group. Then write down examples in the Shared Notes. You can do those in another color.
5.	Determine what qualities make these examples good examples.
6.	Create a document together [on Google docs] and share screens in LumaLive where you compile ways as a team you can improve community at your organization. Otherwise, you can use the LumaLive white board to brainstorm together.
7.	Review any major takeaways they had with the worksheet that they want to share.
8.	Give yourself a goal or timeline to have everyone work on at least 1 strategy. Optional: You could have another session and recognize anyone that accomplished or worked on their strategy.
