Winning in Learning Tip #40: Progress Not Perfection

In education, a winning mindset is rooted in understanding the brain’s role in learning, well-being, and performance. Neuroscience shows that engaging the mind can authentically drive deeper connections, motivation, and success. The key to happiness is in the drive, not the achievement. Our goal is to provide weekly tips and strategies for building a winning mindset and a generative drive to help you build a connected culture and a more engaged workforce. What does Morgan mean by “progress not perfection”?

“What does winning mean to me? That’s hard because I don’t think there’s ever really an end point. One of my close educator friends always says progress not perfection. There’s never going to be the day where I know everything about nursing. I’m the best. I have conquered the world of nursing education. I just don’t think it’s ever an end point. I think we’re working toward something together. I would love to retire in a gazillion years and say ‘wow, we have a healthy, thriving nursing workforce and I did a little bit to help get us there.’ But it’s about the incremental changes, the sustained day-in, day-out progress that we make. So if I can look back and say I showed up and was stronger today than I was yesterday, I gave it my all, I did a little better today than I did yesterday, I think that’s winning.”
