Winning in Learning Tip #38: Take a Break Before You Break

In education, a winning mindset is rooted in understanding the brain’s role in learning, well-being, and performance. Neuroscience shows that engaging the mind can authentically drive deeper connections, motivation, and success. The key to happiness is in the drive, not the achievement. Our goal is to provide weekly tips and strategies for building a winning mindset and a generative drive to help you build a connected culture and a more engaged workforce. I Love Learning Podcast, S2 EP38: Kara Hinzie, Director of Operations at CRST

How did Kara learn to ask for help?

“It didn’t come naturally but through adversity, I learned how to ask for help. In leadership, especially in a male-dominate fields, I was very worried about the perception of asking questions or asking for help. That it would be perceived that I didn’t know what I was doing or didn’t belong in the position I had been given. And that was me getting in my own way and thinking that asking for help was a sign of weakness. When in reality it takes an enormous amount of strength to admit when you need help and be vulnerable and allow people in. Allowing my significant other to help me through that surgery, allowing friends and family to know about it and help me, allowing my team to step up and take care of things while I recovered. I just took time off and I didn’t have to worry a lot because I ask for help all the time now!”
